Fractional Chief Marketing & Communications Officer

What began as a short-term fractional marketing and communications leadership role evolved into a nine-month strategic partnership. Together, we rebuilt Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity's communications function, hired and developed a new Marketing & Community Engagement Manager, and positioned the organization for long-term growth.

The Challenge

When Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity's communications position became vacant in 2025, the organization needed experienced leadership to maintain momentum while determining the right long-term staffing strategy. Leadership wanted more than someone to keep communications moving—they wanted to strengthen the organization's communications function and build the internal capacity needed to support future growth.

The Strategic Partnership

I stepped in as Fractional Chief Marketing & Communications Officer, beginning with a comprehensive communications audit to assess the organization's strengths, opportunities, and long-term needs. Based on that assessment, I recommended creating a new Marketing & Community Engagement Manager position, developed the job description, participated in the hiring process, and onboarded, coached, and mentored the new communications leader.

While providing day-to-day strategic communications leadership, I also led a comprehensive website strategy and redesign, wrote all website content, coordinated photography, produced impact stories and email newsletters, developed and launched the first phase of a capital campaign communications plan, created a year-end fundraising communications strategy, and coached the new communications manager in developing the organization's first Strategic Communications & Engagement Plan.

What began as a two-month engagement ultimately became a nine-month strategic partnership focused on building a stronger communications function—and positioning the organization for long-term success.
