Hello

What does it mean to be known for good?

For me, it's more than a tagline. It's the belief that's guided my career for more than 25 years.

I founded Marketing that Matters in 2009 because I wanted to devote my work to organizations making a meaningful difference in the world. I've always believed great marketing can do more than sell products or promote organizations—it can strengthen communities, inspire generosity, build movements, and help important work reach the people who need it most.

That's the work I've chosen throughout my career.

My Story

I've built my career around doing work that matters.

It began in community journalism, writing for local newspapers in high school and college, and continued at the Star Tribune, where I spent nearly a decade in marketing, public relations, and corporate communications. From there, I served in leadership for the Speaker of the House at the Minnesota House of Representatives before helping launch Growth & Justice, one of Minnesota's first nonpartisan public policy think tanks.

Along the way, I discovered what I loved most wasn't simply writing or marketing—it was helping organizations find their voice, strengthen their communities, and inspire people to act. That passion led me to found Marketing that Matters in 2009.

Over the next 17 years, I partnered with nonprofits, foundations, government agencies, tourism organizations, businesses, and community initiatives, helping organizations navigate change, strengthen their brands, inspire generosity, and tell stories that create lasting impact.

I've had the privilege of serving as a strategic partner to organizations including Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts, Friends of Acadia, Visit Cook County, The Central Corridor Funders Collaborative, College Possible, Metropolitan Alliance of Connected Communities, Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity, and many others.

Today

Today, I partner with nonprofits, foundations, government agencies, and purpose-driven organizations to navigate change, strengthen their brands, engage stakeholders, inspire action, and accelerate growth.

Sometimes that means serving as a fractional Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. Other times it means leading a rebrand, developing a strategic communications strategy, coaching a communications team, or helping an organization discover—and tell—the story only they can tell.

Whatever the challenge, my role is usually the same: ask the right questions, connect the dots, simplify complexity, and help organizations move forward with confidence.

I don't just help organizations communicate better. I help them engage stakeholders in meaningful ways, grow stronger, build lasting relationships, set and achieve outcome goals, and become known for the good they do.

If you're looking for someone who will challenge your thinking, bring executive-level experience and thoughtful guidance, become an extension of your leadership team, and care as deeply about your mission as you do, I'd love to connect.
